One word, two meanings
On 31 March 2025, the BB admin addressed someone as beta — the Hindi word for “son”, written in Latin letters. The message playfully reminded them to share posts before bed, or the bot would get upset and complain to the admin.
Later that evening came another “beta”, followed by a separate message: “BB still in beta, too”. In a chat about building bots, the software meaning was right there. Now the word had a family meaning as well.
An adoption in the replies
On 15 April, the admin wrote “Ok, beta”. A reply sixteen minutes later joked that the admin had finally adopted a child from the BB community.
Some replies are missing from the saved conversation, so we cannot reliably identify who was being addressed. What survives is the wordplay and the joke about adoption.
Later that evening, another participant joined in: “He is my beta also”.
