The people behind the admin badge

Masters, Captains, a one-day Quest Master and community elections: the volunteers’ role kept changing.

A badge with a surprisingly long history

The chat had Masters and Community Leaders. Then came a Captains proposal, a single Helper and even an administrator appointed for twenty-four hours. In 2026, members could use their MetaL Trust to vote for the team.

The starting point was simpler. In August 2022, the founder described the administrators as active users, just like the people asking for help. These were community roles. What they should involve—and who should hold them—kept changing.

How the roles changed

  1. October 2022

    Masters and Community Leaders

The staff list shows volunteers with several different titles. The founder had described administrators as active community users.

  2. 12 February 2023

    A reset in twenty-three seconds

Two staff replies show the old team disappearing. That afternoon, a new proposal introduces Captains; a final appointed Captains roster has not been found.

  3. April–June 2023

One Helper, then only the founder

A single Helper appears in April’s staff list. By 7 June, the list contains only the founder.

  4. 9 January 2024

An admin badge for twenty-four hours

A hidden coding quest gives the chat a temporary Quest Master, with admin rights announced for one day.

  5. September 2025

    Direct appointments return

Two new appointments are announced. By 5 March 2026, the founder reports that the chat temporarily has no administrators.

  6. March–May 2026

A team chosen by the community

The first MetaL-weighted vote produces four administrators on 12 March. That team is removed on 29 May, and another vote is requested.

  7. June 2026

    Another election

Voting opens on 7 June. A winning-party announcement follows on 14 June; the founder says the next day that permissions will be granted.

  8. 12 July 2026

    The model changes again

The founder announces that all administrator roles will be removed and the chat will continue without administrators.
