The day BBP went infinite

A missing check, extra BB points and an afternoon of repairs. BBPointBot had a bug worth remembering.

The bot had to stop

On 6 April 2021, the BB channel announced that BBPointBot had been stopped because of a bug. Half an hour later came the detail: a critical problem with Point Request. A fix was in progress.

That afternoon, another short update reported that the extra points from the hack had been removed. BBP had acquired a little more generosity than intended.

A positive number, please

The explanation arrived with a screenshot of the fix. According to the channel, the hack had been possible because negative amounts were not being checked.

The new validation required a positive whole number. The posted code also checked that there were enough points for the transfer. A transfer now had to start at one and stay on the sensible side of zero.

A title to remember it by

The person who found the bug received the status “BB-hacker”.

On 14 April 2026, the owner was still recalling a BBPointBot hack with “unlimited BBP”. His description: “legendary event” — with laughing emoji.

The 2026 recollection does not name a year; the dated incident above comes from the channel’s April 2021 posts.
